Me (dreamily): in order to jump over your own shadow you need the shadow in front of you. That only works if the light source is behind you. Maybe we should turn round and walk towards the light inste-
DB (exasperated, interrupting): ARGH! I was speaking metaphorically..
Me (grinning): ….so was I….
He wasn’t interested in the explanation, he was more concerned about the lack of organisation in my life.
I get that. Kinda. Especially when the washing doesn’t fit in the washing basket any more.
I still like my metaphor better.
If you go far enough towards the light, especially if it’s above you, you can lose your shadow too (or at least considerably reduce it’s size) and be illuminated as a bonus.
I reckon if you focus on changing your ‘faults’ you run out of energy for getting even better at the things you do well.
I guess I still need to work on my organisation, just not at the expense of my creativity (and patience and everything else)….
Reminds me of an old saying about Life: “If you always face the sunshine, the shadows will be behind you. “

🙂 Reckon it’s too cheesy to take it a step further and say if you learn to shine from within then the shadows don’t stand a chance either?
Was thinking to day: “to have a shadow you MUST be standing in the light” kinda comforting thought.
I teach my little art students about light. I often tell my art students to simply remember, when it starts getting dark and the sun is sinking, shadows get long and scary… 😉
Organization can be overrated. Some people work best in what appears a ‘mess.’ Still, they know exactly where everything is. ‘Disorganization’ is a form of organization. I believe this is my teenage daughter’s strategy. So when I can’t find the floor in her room – she is organized, but in a different sort of way 😉
