Quote: Busyness, mountains and early mornings

“Wherever I am, the world comes after me.
It offers me its busyness. It does not believe that I do not want it.
Now I understand why the old poets of China went so far and high into the mountains, then crept into the pale mist.”

Mary Oliver, Why I Wake Early

I wouldn’t go so far as to wake up early on purpose*, and I don’t have any decent mountains here, but I can certainly understand not wanting to accept the constant hassle, the hectic, the busyness thrust at me čśë

I’ve only recently discovered this poet, but I think I’m already addicted. čÖé

* at least not for pleasure…
