“Wherever I am, the world comes after me.
It offers me its busyness. It does not believe that I do not want it.
Now I understand why the old poets of China went so far and high into the mountains, then crept into the pale mist.”
– Mary Oliver, Why I Wake Early
I wouldn’t go so far as to wake up early on purpose*, and I don’t have any decent mountains here, but I can certainly understand not wanting to accept the constant hassle, the hectic, the busyness thrust at me 😉
I’ve only recently discovered this poet, but I think I’m already addicted. 🙂
* at least not for pleasure…
I wake early, but it’s due to an awkward battle between using the shutters and overheating. Spain lacks curtains. Plus there’s a cockerel, next doors demented dog and a teething baby.
Are you aware of life being better for all the early? Do you have endless energy and all the other benefits morning-people keep promoting?
I do enjoy mornings. I like the daylight and the sun. I don’t have endless energy. You shouldn’t expect a coherent sentence from me after 9pm as I crash.
I also like siestas or naps.
